James McAvoy Taking Break For Family

23 March 2011

James McAvoy has revealed he has decided to limit the amount of film projects he takes on because he wants to spend more time with his wife and first born son.

James McAvoy is taking a break from movies to spend more time with his wife and son.

Following his big screen success, the 'Gnomeo and Juliet' star - who has a nine-month-old son Andrew with his wife Anne Marie Duff - is now in the fortunate position of being able to turn down roles in order to have more quality time at home rather than taking every job he was offered as he used to.

James - who has four movies out this year - explained: "I think you get a little bit sick of it but there was a couple of years there where I was working a hell of a lot and to be honest with you, I wasn't getting much time for my own private life.

I wasn't getting a lot of time to kind of balance the two

"I wasn't getting a lot of time to kind of balance the two. So I thought I had to kind of pay attention to that, to my family and to my friends and all of that.

"I'm lucky in that way that I get the chance to do what I would like to do, but I also get the chance to kind of step back and maybe do one of two things a year and I don't have to do five or six any more."

Although James, 31, is loving fatherhood he is trying not to analyse it too much and is simply enjoying being with his son.

He told the Daily Record newspaper: "We'll have to wait and see how fatherhood affects me as it goes on - I think you can only answer that in 18 years. I'm trying not to analyse things too much, I'm just trying kind of stay open."
