Usher, Ke$ha And More Help Dance Music Go Pop In 2010

But is it here to stay? Our music-industry experts weigh in.
By Akshay Bhansali

Ke$ha
Photo: Andreas Rentz/ Getty Images

In 2010, pop princesses, R&B icons and chart-dominating newcomers all danced to the same beat. Not only did dance music go pop, but pop music caught the club-music bug.

Between Katy Perry's "Firework," Ke$ha's "We R Who We R," Rihanna's "Only Girl (In the World)," Enrique Iglesias' "I Like It," Usher's "DJ Got Us Fallin' in Love" and "OMG" and countless other singles, established artists definitely looked to dance beats for surefire hits. And two of this year's biggest success stories in music were Jason Derülo and Taio Cruz; could there be a soul left in this country who hasn't heard "Dynamite" or "In My Head"?

The love went both ways, with dance music's biggest stars finding mainstream success this year. Dance-music maestro deadmau5 took up house-artist duties at this year's VMAs, and Swedish House Mafia and Usher teamed up for a medley of their gems at the American Music Awards.

So how did this happen? We caught up with some music-industry experts to get their takes.

"You definitely saw tempos go up this year," Jon Caramanica of The New York Times told MTV News. "And I think what you had are a lot of producers who are really familiar with nightclub stuff. They are familiar with Europe. Things are happening on a more global scale now."

"I think everything from Europe, and sometimes even Asia, it comes to America, and we just adopt things a little bit slower," said Jared Eng of JustJared.com. "I think it was just a change. People like different types of music at different times. And dance was of this moment."

Noah Callahan of Complex magazine added: "I think 2010 saw the merging of the pop and dance genres. Pop artists realized that there were best practices that could be borrowed from dance music. And, ultimately, [all] pop music that has been made in the past 20 years had ended up being remixed for the club by dance artists. I think they basically just cut out the middleman and went straight there."

Dance music being introduced into the hip-hop and R&B realms was particularly notable this year.

"I think David Guetta kind of at the end of last year and the beginning of this year spearheaded it," said freelance writer Julianne Escobedo Shepherd. "He produced a lot of tracks. I think as trends go, people revile 'unst-unst.' But it's just coming back around. Big-room techno was a way for people to get decadent in a year that no one could get decadent."

"You have someone like will.i.am, who's like, 'Well, I spent all this time in Ibiza, and this is what they are doing,' and he wants to find a way to bring that into his music," Caramanica said of the Black Eyed Peas mastermind. "R&B especially became dance music. And especially with your Jason Derülos, Taio Cruzes. Guys like that would have literally been blocked at the border two years ago. That would not have made it through customs. And now all of a sudden they have #1 songs. I think will.i.am had a lot to do with that last year."

Elliott Wilson of RapRadar.com added: "It's actually even affected hip-hop. I was talking to Q-Tip, and his next record, I feel like that's gonna kind of go in that vein. I know that was also Jay-Z's thought process with Blueprint 3 at first, that he wanted to make a little bit more of a world music [vibe], a little more dancey. I think the kids today want to go to the clubs. They wanna have a good time. They wanna dance. So I think the artists of today are trying to kind of feed that audience."

"I think it's caught on this year because the people who've done it have been successful," offered Clover Hope of Vibe magazine. "Like 'OMG,' with usher, he didn't have success until he made a dance record. He had 'There Goes My Baby' and these really, like, adult-contemporary records that didn't really catch on. And then once you see that everybody is doing it and that people are liking it, they are like, 'OK, let me just try this out.' It's like Auto-Tune. Like, 'Let me see what I sound like on a record by David Guetta.' They end up liking it and doing more of it."

So does the club-music trend have staying power. According to our tastemakers, not so much.

"I do think it's a blip," Caramanica said. "I don't think that's gonna be something that lasts in America. I think this is gonna be a moment we'll all look back on and go, 'Wasn't that weird when Jason Derülo and Taio Cruz had #1 records?"

"At some point, these R&B artists will get kind of sick of it and be like, 'Let me go back to my soul background,' " Hope said. "When you actually have to say something, dance doesn't really lend itself to substance. And I think that R&B artists, they really want to talk about love and in a deep way, and to do that, you need to do, like, a soul or a traditional R&B record. I want to say that it's kind of a fad."

"I think music is very cyclical," Eng offered. "So I think dance music might be here for a little bit, but I'm sure it will phase out at some point."

Wilson called dance music "the sound of today. I think that people want more aggressive, faster beats, and I think that that probably has legs until at least next summer."

What do you think? Is dance music here to stay? Let us know in the comments!

Grammy 2011 Snubs Include Adam Lambert, Ke$ha, Big Boi, Rihanna

While Lady Gaga and Justin Bieber were both nominated, they didn't get as much love as some expected.
By Gil Kaufman

Ke$ha
Photo: Jordan Strauss/ Getty Images

You hear it all the time: "I'm just thankful to be nominated." It's the gracious and polite thing to say, and artists who lose out on major awards always feel compelled to offer it up.

But what if you never even get nominated?

Every year, there are head-slapping omissions from the roster of nominees at the big awards-fests (Christopher Nolan at the Oscars, anyone?), and this year's 53rd annual Grammy Awards (which take place February 13) are no exception.

In the night's biggest category, Album of the Year, there was plenty of griping from critics about the inclusion of Katy Perry's Teenage Dream, which many considered too lightweight for the night's top prize. But there was also a bit of talk about Justin Bieber's smash My World 2.0 not making it into the mix in the major categories, even if Bieber can lick his wounds with his Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album love.

Though the rules about the Best New Artist category have since been changed to avoid such a problem in the future, Lady Gaga has been the victim of Grammy snubs before. She earned six nominations this year, including coveted Album of the Year for The Fame Monster, but it was mystifying that her huge hit, "Bad Romance," didn't get any Record or Song of the Year nominations.

What gives?

"They want her for ratings, but I think the Grammys are still a bit freaked out by Gaga," said Entertainment Weekly music writer Leah Greenblatt. "There were so many shenanigans about her not being nominated for Best New Artist that I think the Grammys got shamed over that. It's possible they would try to make it up to her by showering her with nominations and I could see her win in major categories [in the future], but I think they're not quite ready for her." That could, of course, change next year when Gaga's Born This Way is in the running.

Another diva used to serious Grammy love, Alicia Keys, was totally shut out for her The Element of Freedom album. "It's interesting that Alicia Keys got nothing," she said. "Her and John Mayer are practically on the ballots every year whether they qualify for eligibility or not. And I think 'Try Sleeping With a Broken Heart' was one of the year's best singles." And reclusive Grammy bait Sade got a pair of notices for her singles "Soldier of Love" and "Babyfather" in the R&B categories but no chance at any of the big prizes. Greenblatt said she was surprised by both snubs, especially since Sade's Soldier of Love album was one of the top sellers of 2010 and because the enigmatic singer had been away for nearly a decade and came back in fine, mature form, the kind of story the Grammys love to honor.

There were some eyebrows raised over the single nomination for "American Idol" runner-up Adam Lambert, who had a solid and creatively rich hit album with his debut, For Your Entertainment, but just a single nod for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance for "Whataya Want From Me."

With Perry strutting into a number of top categories thanks to her light-as-air pop confections, it was a wonder that another pop tart with huge digital sales and big chart hits (things the Recording Academy likes to see), Ke$ha, was completely shut out of the game. Greenblatt thought the Lambert dis might fall into the same Gaga territory, with the Academy being a bit freaked out by the singer's out-and-proud persona and over-the-top antics, but when it comes to Ke$ha, she said it's probably a different story. "She had a huge impact, but I think the Grammys think she might go away, and they've chosen not to legitimize her," she speculated.

Speaking of big sales, quite a few people commented on the fact that Train's smash "Hey, Soul Sister," the best-selling single of 2010, got just one notice for a little-heard live version in the Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group category.

A couple of well-respected hip-hop acts were also conspicuously absent from the nominations list, including Outkast's Big Boi, whose acclaimed Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty was left out of the Best Rap Album category, along with Rick Ross, whose Teflon Don got no love. "Rick Ross is the kind of artist made to be ignored by the Grammys," Greenblatt said. "He has a sensibility the Grammys will almost never come around to, no matter how beloved he is by rap fans."

But given that she thought Chico Dusty was one of the best albums of 2010, Greenblatt was stunned by the freeze-out of Big Boi, who has been showered with Grammy love in the past. "It's such an achievement, a fully realized album that feels like a real tapestry, a headphones album from someone whose skills are so singular ... [from] one of the most iconic and Grammy-approved hip-hop acts of all time."

Rihanna's Rated R was also eligible but got stiffed in the major categories, landing just a Best Dance Recording nod for "Only Girl (In the World)" for her single from last year's Loud and a number of notices for her work on Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie." And if you thought Kanye West got ripped off when My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy got blanked, don't worry: It wasn't eligible this year but is in the hunt for next year.

The one omission that seemed to make sense was the two small nominations for the kids from "Glee," who are up for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals for their cover of Journey's "Don't Stop Believin' " and for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Glee: Vol. 1. Though they set cash registers ringing like crazy, it's no wonder that actors singing covers didn't garner attention at a show that ostensibly awards creativity. And no one seemed too shocked that Christina Aguilera's poorly received Bionic was ignored.

Who do you think got stiffed by the Grammys? Share your top snubs in the comments.

Mark Ruffalo Reveals Hulk Re-Design For 'Avengers'

'All the features are mine, just really big,' actor says of new look.
By Shawn Adler, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Mark Ruffalo will soon join Edward Norton and Eric Bana as the third actor to portray Dr. Bruce Banner in as many big-screen adventures, but when the Incredible Hulk finally lines up next to Iron Man, Thor, Captain America and the rest of Marvel's mightiest to take on evils no single one of them can handle on their own, it won't just be the good doctor you'll have trouble recognizing: It might be the jade giant himself.

"The Avengers" will diverge from previous versions of the character and feature its own re-designed rendering of the green behemoth to more accurately reflect the new actor playing him, Ruffalo revealed to MTV News on the red carpet at the Independent Spirit Awards.

Ruffalo said the character's designers are working hard to make the Hulk look like him: "All the features are mine, just really big. I got to see the maquette of the Hulk yesterday in full scope, and it's awesome."

The re-design makes the most of new technology being utilized for the flick, with Ruffalo donning performance-capture suits akin to the ones used by Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana for "Avatar." According to the Oscar-nominated actor, it'll be the first time the same actor has played both incarnations of the character.

"I'll be playing it. I'm the first actor to actually do it in motion capture as the Hulk," he said.

Back when the project was initially announced, rumors swirled that the Hulk might actually start out as the villain, tricked perhaps by Loki, as he did when the Avengers first assembled in comics.

While predictably tight-lipped about his role in the plot, Ruffalo did compliment the script, insisting that the film was right "in [director] Joss Whedon's wheelhouse."

"It's cool. It's gonna be great," he enthused. "The script is a nice combination of funny with pathos."

Controversial Anti-Abortion Ad "Covered" Amid Outcry From Protesters And The Mother Of Girl In The Ad

We told you previously about a controversial anti-abortion ad in NYC that set off a wave of controversy all around the country.  Now the billboard has been removed but not before upseting people all around the nation and the mother of the little girl in the ad.  Deets inside...

The ad above, purchased by Texas-based Life Always, upset folks around the country with its claim that "the most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb."

Because it was branded offensive, it has been covered "for safety reasons" over concerns of harrassment of the wait staff in the restaurant the ad hung over.

But the ad itself has had far-reaching implications.  Tricia Fraser, whose six-year-old daughter Anissa was pictured on the ad, is furious.  Tricia told the New York Daily News that Anissa was photographed by a modeling agency two years ago, but she didn't know an anti-abortion campaign aimed at African Americans would use her image. "I was devastated that they portrayed her like that," she said.

And though Tricia has not spoken to anyone from Life Always, she wants them to know, "I will feel so much better if I had something from that organization saying we will no longer use that child's image."

SMH...but for anyone out there, when you sign a release form, you basically give people the right to use your likeness in any way they want.

Lady Gaga Inspires Fans At Madison Square Garden Show

'She's god! This little monster loves her mommy!' one fan told MTV News.

On Monday night, Lady Gaga's little monsters put on their best Gaga as they headed to Madison Square Garden for Mother Monster's latest stop at the famed New York City venue, where she was making her first of two appearances. The fans were not only treated to her Monster Ball, but also got the chance to see Gaga's new single "Born This Way" live and be part of Gaga history as she taped the concert for an upcoming HBO special.

So, what stood out most? "When she gave her little speech about never letting someone tell you can't get a Grammy [or] you can't get an HBO special," Gaga fan Leanna told MTV News outside the show, moments after Gaga wrapped up. "I cried because it was just so meaningful ... it's like no one can tell me no."

Fellow fan Carey noted that Gaga is always thinking of her fans when she puts on her two-hour-plus spectacle. "I always feel like it's catered to her customers and her fans," he excitedly shared. "Go little monsters!"

Casey noted that being in the room as Gaga performed "Born This Way" was awe-inspiring. "I mean, it's her hometown and she just reenacted the Grammy performance," she said. "It's f---in' beautiful."

It seemed that particular song really resonated with the fans who came out to see Gaga. "My favorite was the last song, 'Born This Way.' To me, it's a great anthem for kids today, or anyone for that matter," Gaga fan Tony said.

Evie and her pal Cecelia also loved the finale. "I loved 'Born This Way' at the end," Evie said. "It was perfect. It was the perfect ending."

And two of Gaga's New York fans summed it up this way: "She is our religion," Danielle proclaimed. Her pal Joey agreed, adding, "She's god! This little monster loves her mommy!"

"Glee" Debuts Original Songs

They are amazing at covering hit songs by stars like Katy Perry, Britney Spears and Madonna? but now ?Glee? is making some of their very own music.

Two original songs written for the show premiered earlier today (February 25) on Ryan Seacrest?s website.

Music producer, Adam Anders told Entertainment Weekly, that ?Loser Like Me? is a ?Gleek anthem. It?s a very uptempo, kind-of-summery hit.?

The second song, ?Get It Right,? is sung by the mighty Lea Michele and is more of a power ballad.

"Lea's storyline kind of inspired that song for me," Anders says. "Basically, you try to do everything right and you have good motivations with everything you're doing but everything ends up going wrong. How many times will it take for me to get it right?"

Dan Fogler Hawked Toys In A Smelly Costume, On 'When I Was 17'

'Take Me Home Tonight' star recalls playing 'Big'-inspired Zoltar at a local toy shop on Saturday's episode.
By Alex Chapman

Photo: MTV News

Summer jobs are a rather traditional staple of teenage life — lifeguard, waiter and intern — but working as the Amazing Zoltar (inspired by the Tom Hanks classic "Big") at a used toy store?

Now that's something you don't come across every day. But Dan Fogler, who plays scene-stealing Barry in the new '80s-flavored comedy "Take Me Home Tonight," had the honor of taking on this, er, once-in-a-lifetime role. "I am the amazing Zoltar!" Fogler recalls exclaiming in the upcoming episode of "When I Was 17". "Selling discounted toys!" he says in his best Borat accent.

But Fogler's adolescent stint as the costumed fortuneteller wasn't without its sacrifices. "I think I shared the outfit with at least 10 different grown men," the actor admits. "I don't think they ever washed it."

Fogler's solution to masking the suit's putrid scent? Febreeze, of course. "Here, put on your Zoltar suit, Dan. And here's the Febreeze," says Fogler, impersonating his former boss. "[I'd say], 'What's this for? Oh my God!' Then you basically just pour that crap all over."

"Yeah, [the costume] was ripe," Dan's friend Johnny agrees.

But when customers came to the store, Fogler made sure to clarify that the odor emanating from his grubby Zoltar costume didn't belong to him. "The kids would be like, 'Yay, Zoltar! " Then they would smell him and say, 'Oh, God!,' " Fogler remembers. "I'd be like, 'Zoltar normally smells fine!' "

Becoming Zoltar must have somehow paid off though: Fogler's new film, co-starring Anna Farris and Topher Grace — both of whom also share their stories on Saturday's episode airing at 11 a.m. ET. — hits theaters on March 4.

Don't miss when Dan's "Take Me Home Tonight" co-stars Topher Grace and Anna Faris dish on their adolescent occupations in the newest episode of "When I Was 17," premiering Saturday at 11 a.m. ET on MTV.

'Hall Pass' Stars Recall Best And Worst Pickup Lines

Owen Wilson, Jason Sudeikis and Jenna Fischer quip about some memorable dating experiences with MTV News.
By Kara Warner

Jason Sudeikis and Owen Wilson in "Hall Pass"
Photo: New Line Cinema

Those who have seen the trailer for Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis' new comedy, "Hall Pass," know that in the Farrelly brothers-directed film, the duo embark upon a series of zany misadventures after obtaining "hall passes" — basically a one-week vacation/break from their marriages — from their wives. During this marital hiatus, the boys do everything they can to pick up women, oftentimes using the most outlandish and ridiculous of pickup lines.

When MTV News caught up with Wilson, Sudeikis and fellow co-star Jenna Fischer recently during the film's press day, we asked them to share their go-to lines, as well as a few they've used with success.

"Hi, I'm Jason Sudeikis," Wilson quipped, which prompted a witty exchange between him and the "Saturday Night Live" star.

"Aw, that's very nice of you," Sudeikis said. "Does that work for you?"

"Yeah!" Wilson exclaimed, laughing.

And then Sudeikis focused a bit, seeming to put some thought into the question, only to make room for more for Wilson laughter and more back-and-forth banter between the two.

"My most successful one is, 'How much do you cost?' " Sudeikis joked. "And you have to use that specifically."

"Hold that for Valentine's Day," Wilson advised, even though Sudeikis clearly wasn't paying attention and went on with reciting bad pickup techniques.

" 'Are those real?' " Sudeikis said. " 'Your eyes. I'm talking about your dreams.' "

" 'Are they realistic?' " Wilson added.

Fine, fine. If they won't take the question seriously then we won't. Next up, a few of the best and worst pickup lines the fellow castmembers have heard over the years.

"Usually women will insult me," Sudeikis explained. " 'I don't see why you're so great.' And then, for some reason, I find that completely alluring."

"Ok, I'm going to win you over!" Wilson added. "Ok, sit right here. Settle in for the next hour or three — here we go," he joked.

Following with the theme of insults as pickup lines, Jenna Fischer recalled a particular unsettling experience.

"I had this guy come up to me at a bar when I was much younger and he had said, 'I bet I can guess your weight and if I do, can I get a kiss?' And I thought to myself, 'What?! No! What woman wants to talk about her weight? What if you're wrong? What if you're right? I don't care, anyway,' " she said. "The idea that you just approached me with the most objectified vision of me, you whittled me down to a number, was so offensive."

Needless to say, Fischer was not particularly receptive to that line.

"He did not get a kiss," she added.

Lil Wayne 'You & I' Sneak Peek Hits The Net

Lil Wayne made the transition from star to superstar with his extraordinary work ethic, releasing a slew of mixtape material and reaching the tipping point with 2008's Tha Carter III.

Since his release from prison late last year, however, the Cash Money Records artist has been conservative about putting out new official offerings, aside from his own "6 Foot 7 Foot." But a snippet of a new Weezy track, "You & I," surfaced online on Thursday (February 24) and it appears to be from a forthcoming DJ Drama and DJ Woogie mixtape.

"All we do is fuss and f--- / Over this and that and such and such," Wayne raps on the number.

"Man, I think I gotta toughen up/ Love knocks you down/ And it feels like I been sucker-punched/ But I love her like new money/ I ain't going nowhere like Al Bundy/ I'm like how can I leave her?/ Love is a bitch but everybody need her/ Inhale, exhale, I just need a breather/ Call a timeout and watch the cheerleaders/ And when I'm not feeling the same, I just drive my Bugatti down memory lane/ And come back to you."

In addition to ""6 Foot" and "You & I," Wayne has loaned his rhymes to a remix of Bruno Mars' "Grenade", Birdman's "Fire Flame" and a Super Bowl edition of Wiz Khalifa's "Black and Yellow."

Wayne is scheduled to debut his "6 Foot" video on MTV soon.

What do you think of Wayne's "You & I" so far? Tell us in the comments!

What Should Natalie Portman, Anne Hathaway Wear To The Oscars?

Fashion experts weigh in on some of the trends they expect to see at this year's Academy Awards show, which takes place this Sunday.

For Hollywood stars attending the Academy Awards, the days leading up to the big show this Sunday likely are filled with fittings, meetings with stylists and major decisions about what they will wear. With so many big names up for awards at this year's event, MTV News wanted to know what some of the Oscars fashion trends will be.

We caught up with fashion-industry maven and People's Revolution founder, Kelly Cutrone, and Faran Krentcil, digital director at Nylon magazine, and asked them to weigh in on what they believe will light up the red carpet at this year's ceremony. Krentcil predicts that the big trends will be color and American designers. Cutrone, who says that blue and lavender will be popular, also wants to see lots of American designers' creations on display.

Regarding first-time Oscar nominee Hailee Steinfeld, the ladies had a very specific idea of what the teen should wear to the show. "She's not a trend yet, but she will be," Krentcil admitted. "Her Golden Globe and SAG Awards looks were incredible, and the girl is only 14! She's one to watch on the fashion front, for sure. I wouldn't be surprised if by next year, she's got a high-fashion campaign like Miu Miu."

Cutrone noted that the "True Grit" star should go for "short, super fun and nothing overpowering. She should be the pixie and we don't need to bury her in too much dress." She added, "I think that Michelle Williams needs to step it up. She needs to dress it up. She needs to hit it. I think she needs to go from pixie to sexy," noting that Williams should pass the pixie throne to Steinfeld.

Faran joked about the Oscars' two young co-hosts, "Anne Hathaway will wear Valentino. James Franco will wear Anne Hathaway."

Meanwhile, Cutrone had more specific advice for the female emcee for the night. "I think she should wear an American designer. I think she should keep it really elegant and have an Audrey Hepburn moment — a great, very clean moment," she said. "[She should wear] red, white or black; really simple. She needs to look really pulled together. She really should step it up."

As for Best Actress Oscar nominee and mom-to-be, Natalie Portman, Cutrone thinks that her look will be the most talked about for years to come. "She will have one of the most memorable maternity outfits ever," she predicted. "It will live on like a Princess Grace of Monaco sort of image."

Will it be a regal evening for "The King's Speech"? Can "The Social Network" dial up Oscar gold? Don't miss MTV News' "2011 Oscars Live" at 6 p.m. Sunday, February 27, when we'll be chatting with your favorite Hollywood stars live from the red carpet on MTVNews.com, and stick with us all Oscar night for winners, interviews, photos and more!

Lindsay Lohan Seeks Advice from Former Attorney

Doing everything that she possibly can to avoid time behind bars, Lindsay Lohan ventured out to visit with her former lawyer, Blair Berk, in Beverly Hills on Thursday (February 24).

Joined by her mother Dina, the two ladies looked to be in high spirits as they popped into the legal office to discuss the "Mean Girls" star's upcoming hearing regarding her grand theft and probation violation charges.

As previously reported by GossipCenter, Lindsay entered a not guilty plea to the felony grand theft count and now has until March 10th to decide whether to accept a plea deal (and receive certain jail time) or take her chances by going to trial.

According to TMZ, Miss Lohan was advised to lean on her former attorney by her current lawyer, Shawn Holley, as Miss Berk represented her in two DUI cases which led to the probation violation.

TV FAB: LaLa Vasquez And Carmelo Anthony Back In The Game At VH1 With "LaLa's Full Court Life"

Now that Carmelo Anthony is moving to New York to play for the Knicks, his wife LaLa Vasquez will be by his side...with her television crew.

LaLa and Carmelo will both return to reality television this summer as VH1 kicks off a new series called "LaLa's Full Court Life."  Deets inside...

Since her first reality series "LaLa's Full Court Wedding" was such a ratings success, LaLa Vasquez has reunited with VH1 for a new series about her life called “LaLa’s Full Court Life” (working title). The new series is slated to premiere in August 2011, featuring ten 30-minute episodes.

The docu-series, which began filming in January, will continue where LaLa's weddiing left off with she and Carmelo preparing for a sudden move to New York City.

So what can we expect from the bubbly tv personality this go round?  Viewers will see LaLa adjusting to her new life as a wife, dealing with parenting issues and juggling her busy acting and television hosting career.  And VH1 confirms there will be appearances by LaLa's famous friends, including 50 Cent , Kelly Rowland , Trina, Serena Williams and Ciara.

When asked about the show, Jeff Olde, EVP of Original Programming and Production at VH1 said,

“Viewers connect with La La because despite the fairy tale wedding and NBA star husband, she is a real, down to Earth, hardworking woman who stays true to herself.  The best thing about the new series is that while pursuing and realizing her dreams, La La gets to take us back to her home in New York, where her story began.”

And to get viewers excited about the new series, LaLa will be participating in a live chat with VH1 on Twitter during the 7pm and 11pm encore broadcasts of “LaLa’s Full Court Wedding” on Sunday, February 27.  Viewers can join by following @LaLa and @VH1, and via the hashtag #FullCourtWedding.

I'm excited to see LaLa and Carmelo back with this new series.  I like them as a couple and they represent two hard working adults without all the drama and foolywang.

I'm setting my DVR as we speak.

Black Eyed Peas, Usher, Slash Light Up Super Bowl XLV Halftime Show

Foursome is joined by special guests and tons of lights for smash-hit medley.

The Black Eyed Peas promised a party at the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday (February 6), and the pop supernovas definitely delivered, with a performance teeming with lights, dancers and surprise appearances from celebrity pals.

Following a Chatter.com commercial that showed animated versions of the Peas showing off their social-media skills, the group kicked things off with their 2009 smash "I Gotta Feeling," descending from the ceiling on illuminated platforms onto a stage surrounded by a cluster of dancers clad in white bodysuits. The foursome led the team of fist-pumping troops in "Tron"-like getups, with Taboo sporting an outfit covered in flashing lights, will.i.am rocking a shiny hairpiece, Apl.de.ap wearing huge bright studs and Fergie vamping it up in bling-laden shoulder pads.

When the speaker-busting bass of "Boom Boom Pow" dropped, the dancers dispersed across the field to create arrow-shaped formations as the glow-in-the-dark lights on their suits illuminated the stadium. Then rumored surprise guest Slash of Guns N' Roses rose from below the stage for a "Sweet Child O' Mine" duet with Fergie. The GNR great rocked a finger-searing solo in a studded version of his signature black top hat as more angular platforms and dancers moved across the gridiron. The platforms were bearing scores of marching-band musicians who blasted their horns and pounded away on their drums as the Peas went into "Pump It" and blue lights splashed across the production.

Quick streams of fog heralded the arrival of the Peas' second surprise guest, Usher, who swooped in on a long chain to bust out his will.i.am-assisted joint "OMG." Rocking a sparkly collar on an otherwise all-white ensemble, the R&B hitmaker cranked out several counts of energetic choreography, enlivening moves from his "OMG" video and at one point jumping over Will and landing in a split.

A spray of pyro ushered in the collective's breakout 2003 hit "Where Is the Love?" as the oddly shaped platforms spelled out the word "Love" in bright-red letters. The team of dancers, which appeared to have multiplied to over 100, formed hearts across the field as will updated the lyrics of the smash with lines like, "Obama, let's get these educated."

Then the group jumped ahead to their most recent single, 2010's "The Time (Dirty Bit)," as several back up hoofers rocking cubed helmets joined the Peas onstage and dancers lined up along the gridiron to simultaneously bust out the Running Man, a move which drew cheers from the crowd.

The platinum-selling Peas wrapped up the performance with a reprise of "I Gotta Feeling," as the quartet triumphantly signed off amid of blitz of fog, firepower and flashing lights.

Ripping the halftime show was clearly a touching moment for will, who tweeted beforehand, "Me and apl started the peas when we were 16 yesterday we were dreamin now were livin it. Wow. I'm not crying out of sadness or nervousness its joy and pride and memories and the journey."

And once the crew left the stage, the frontman was not only proud, but pumped. "That was so freakin sick," he wrote. "Wow...!!!"

What did you think of the Black Eyed Peas' Super Bowl performance? Let us know in the comments!

Are Rosie and Oprah Clashing Over New Show?

Are Rosie and Oprah Clashing Over New Show?

Oprah Winfrey and Rosie O'Donnell are two of the biggest personalities in TV talk show history -- so is there room for both of them on the same network? Things seemed nice and friendly in the fall, when Oprah offered Rosie a show on the new Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN). But now, reports are leaking that the two daytime queens aren't getting along.

"Oprah and Rosie have not been seeing eye to eye on the tone of Rosie's new show," an OWN insider tells PopEater. "Oprah sees it as a friendly daytime talk show where viewers get to spend an hour with the old Rosie they used to love. Rosie, on the other hand, thinks the show should be more political and a place where she can express her liberal views."

Hmm, that a lot like what happened right before O'Donnell was fired from The View in 2007. Back then, her political tirades were trying the patience of another powerful media mogul, Barbara Walters.

Oprah actually anticipated that this might happen again. In an article about OWN, Winfrey admitted that she'd visited O'Donnell at home to do a "crazy check." At the end of her visit, she concluded that she and Rosie could work together, as long as Rosie spoke with her "woman to woman" instead of airing her issues on the radio or the Internet. So far, O'Donnell seems to have honored that agreement. But it sounds like Oprah might be making things worse by keeping her on a short leash.

"Oprah wants Rosie to use an executive producer that she knows and trusts," says PopEater's source. "Rosie insists she be able to pick her own, fearing whoever Oprah picks will be a spy. It's a bad way to start off, considering they haven't even taped a single show yet."

We think Oprah's instincts are probably right in this case; Rosie's personal side has always been more popular than her political side. And really, it's O'Donnell's job to deliver the show that Oprah asked for. After all, it's her network!

Would you rather that Rosie O'Donnell's new show be political, or more fun? Chime in below!
